On Friday, we had some very special guests visit our classroom from the New Brunswick SPCA. Olivia and Bernie came in to teach us all about dog safety and what to do if you are approached by a strange dog and what to do if you want to pet a dog you don't know. Students were very engaged and attentive while Olivia and Bernie were speaking and they learned lots of new information! Then, in comes Modock, the German Shepherd and students got a chance to practice what they just learned. What a great experience for the children! They all had a fantastic time!

Do you think March will go out like a Lion or a Lamb? We're hoping it goes out like a lamb!! So, last week, we made some cute little lambs as an art project. Students started by using a Q-Tip to dab white paint onto their background paper to make the shape of the lamb's body. Next, they had to cut out a head, ears and legs and glue them to the body. After that, they added eyes and finally, they added a cute little bow. Check out the process of students at work creating their adorable little lambs... And the finished products... During the month of March, one of our Word Work activities has been to learn all about consonant blends. A consonant blend is two consonants that blend together when read (mostly at the beginning, but sometimes in the middle or at the end of a word, too). Here are some posters that we made to help us learn about the different consonant blends (L blends, R blends, S blends). P.S.-I forgot to take a picture of the S Blend posters, so will do that tomorrow :) We didn't get a chance to build with 100 cups during our 100th Day celebrations, however, it's such a fun activity, I wanted to make sure we got a chance to try it out. It's not as easy as it looks! There were lots of squeals of delight and moans of defeat when a hard-built structure tumbled over! Which structure do you think would be the most stable? For the past few weeks, we have been working on Adding and Subtracting. Friends of 10 are a very important part of learning how to add and subtract quickly. To put it simply, Friends of 10 are two numbers that add together to make 10. Students should be able to quickly recognize and be able to recall the Friends of 10. It's a very effective strategy! Please have your child practice the Friends of 10 facts at home.
Did you know that everyone has their own personal space bubble? Mrs. McHugh came in and taught us all about the Personal Space Bubble and how we should respect the bubbles of everyone. Not respecting the bubbles of others:Respecting the bubbles of others: |
