We had a spectacular field trip today! The weather couldn't have been better and there was just enough wind to keep all the bugs at bay. The children all had a wonderful time and I'm betting they'll all sleep well tonight (if they even make it to nighttime!). Ask them to tell you all about it... It all started with a fabulous tour of Scott's Nursery. A big shout out to our awesome tour guide, Rian's Grampie, Kenney! He kept us all well entertained :) Then, we headed next door for some tasty Dari Delight ice cream! After that, we got back on the bus and headed for Wilmot Park, where we played and then ate lunch and then played some more! As part of our Multiple Intelligence centers, I hosted the Visual Spatial center here in our classroom. All grade one classes rotated through each of the centers-4 in total (which is why I have pics of many different children who aren't normally in our pictures). Using our Shape and Space unit as a theme, we completed 3 super fun activities: -shape puzzles (can you put your puzzles pieces together to make a 2D shape?) -geoboards (what 2D shapes can you build on your geoboard?) -3D objects (what structures can you build using 3D objects?) I think most children would agree that this was a pretty fun center! They got to build for 30 minutes and who doesn't love to build?! :) On Monday, we tried our hardest to get to Orchard Park for a picnic. When we started walking from the school, it was sprinkling a little. When we got there, it was raining a little more so we thought we'd get a few minutes of play time in and then head back to the school to eat lunch (at least we'd get a good walk, right?). After a few minutes, the rain stopped so we thought "Let's eat lunch!" Well, guess what?? Part way through lunch it started raining again and this time harder! So, back we come to the school to finish lunch and play in the classroom. Mother Nature really didn't know what she wanted on Monday!! But, we had lots of fun anyway. :) Last week during our Measurement unit, we got a chance to experiment with measuring length and in particular ordering different lengths. We especially talked about the importance of having a baseline when we measure length. We ordered our sneakers and playdo snakes :) One of the most fun writing projects that we've had this year in Grade One is writing a How To piece on Oreo Cookies...How To Eat an Oreo Cookie. Did you know that Oreo cookies can be eaten many different ways? First, we just had to eat one to take note of exactly how we like to eat our Oreos. Next, we planned it out, Then, we wrote it out in good copy. Finally, we made it into a booklet. :) |
