What can you make with applesauce, cinnamon and white glue?! Why, a Gingerbread Man Christmas Tree Ornament, of course! While I didn't get many pictures because I was busy helping with measuring and stirring, rolling and cutting, I did manage to snap a couple. They turned out so adorably cute and the classroom smells wonderful!! :) |

Christmas is so much more than just the giving and receiving of gifts...it's also about being kind to others even when it's not expected of us or we're not asked to. One of the projects that I enjoy doing most with my grade one classes is teaching them how to give compliments to others and preform Random Acts of Kindness at Christmastime. We will be using this Random Acts of Christmas Kindness calendar throughout the month of December. Please feel free to use it at home as well or to use the blank calendar and create your own Random Acts of Christmas Kindness. Let's spread the cheer!! :) We kicked off our Christmas Celebration by writing letters to Santa! These weren't just any old regular letters to Santa though...students had to tell Santa Claus all about themselves and perhaps even ask him some questions. Everyone did a marvelous job! Well done, boys and girls!! Santa is going to LOVE these letters! P.S.-I mailed the letters off to The North Pole yesterday, but managed to snap some pictures first! :) We had our first publishing celebration on Friday. Students have worked so hard to prepare these published pieces. They should feel very proud! We started off our celebration in the Hub sharing our writing with others. Then, we moved back to the classroom for a special toast and a cookie to continue the celebration. Take a look... Sharing With OthersToastingPublished WritingYesterday, we went to the New Maryland Walking Trails with our learning buddies and had a fabulous time walking around in nature. Mayor Judy Wilson-Shee met us there and taught us all about the history of the trails. She sure does love those trails! We then got some time to go exploring with our buddies. We can't wait until we get to go back again! :) This week's Word Work project for Daily 5 was another fun Eat Your Words. This time we practiced our Long O words. When we finished writing a list of Long O words, we got to place a fruit loop on each of the O's and then...Eat Them! :) Heidi was in for the day again today! I'm sure you're child will tell you all about it :)
"Besides the 19 children, 1 teacher and 1 dog we have in our class, we can now add another member to our extended family...a calf!! That's right, our class has adopted a baby calf (a Holstein calf) and we've named her Tru. "Schutten JettAir Tru" to be exact...that's quite a handle for such a little being! Schutten is the name of the farm where she lives (Schutten Holsteins in Maugerville), JettAir is her Dad's name and Tru is the name we gave her (her Mom's name is Truffles so the baby's name had to start with Tr). We will be seeing a lot of her through pictures and videos from the farmer, Wanda and when I myself make it out to the barn. I've been there once already and I have to say she is simply adorable! I got to bottle feed her and even got to let her out of her pen for a bit :) We will all be making a trip out to the barn in May to see her in person. For now, check her out in the pics and videos below :)
