First, we did an introductory activity that got us thinking about all the plants, bugs and animals that call a beaver pond and the surrounding area their home. Then, we got to hike around the beaver pond trail and we noticed all kinds of interesting things. Finally, we got to go critter dipping! We found all kinds of things: frogs, tadpoles, bugs, slugs, snails, clams, minnows and even a salamander! After critter dipping, it was lunch time and we had a picnic and then played some really fun games with Justin, our tour guide. It always feels so good to spend the day outside and yesterday was an awesome day!! :) Take a look at our pictures below and let us know what you think in the comments below :)
Yesterday, we went on our very first field trip of grade one to Mactaquac. It was FABULOUS! All the children were well behaved, we had a fantastic tour guide and we learned a ton about beavers and the beaver pond habitat. On Friday, we celebrated Terry Fox with a school assembly and a walk around the block. I love all the yellow! :) Last week, we had our very first baking session together. We made apple crisp and it was delicious! Everyone tried it and most of the children liked it :) Thank you very much to Lesley, Keri and Amanda for helping out! It was very much appreciated! Take a look at our pics and let us know what you think... We met our Grade Five Learning Buddies for the first time last Friday. They are going to be so fun to work with! Throughout the year, we will be working on reading, writing, math, art and technology together. Can't wait! :) This afternoon was so beautiful outside...another summer day! It won't be long before the cold weather is upon us so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went for a walk to Orchard Park this afternoon. What a great time! :) Today, we had our very first Guest Reader! Leslie joined us and read two great stories. Everyone was so well behaved and respectful while she read...I was very proud of them!! :)
Friday was our first set of Friday Centers! Students had a wonderful time completing four centers in our room and then four centers in Ms. Maloney's room. Check out our pics and feel free to leave a comment... Today, we did a super fun 'Getting to Know You' activity. Students traveled around the classroom (with their clipboards, paper and pencil) trying to find friends who liked certain things (pizza, dogs, flying a kite, watching tv, football, reading, etc.). The children had an awesome time. They got to move around, use a clipboard and learn more about each other, all at the same time! :) |
