She also told us what playtime at CHAT House might look like...very different from playtime here! FYI-you'll probably need speakers to hear this...sorry...I've got to learn to remember to turn the iPad volume up when I record videos!

Yesterday, when Mrs. Hunter was here, she showed us a new little game that the children at CHAT House taught her when she was there. She said they love playing it! Today, we had a guest speaker visit our classroom. Mrs. Hunter has been lucky enough to visit CHAT House in Uganda and we were lucky enough to have her visit us this morning! She told us all about her trip to Africa and her visit to CHAT House. We even got to see lots of pictures of Faith! Mrs. Hunter also read us a letter that Faith wrote to us and she shared lots of African artifacts that we got to touch and feel. It was an awesome visit and we thank Mrs. Hunter immensely! Please see below for our pictures... Just realized our blog posts have not been linking directly to our twitter feed so this is just a test to make sure it has been fixed :)
We are currently practicing this song so that we can learn the words and sing it ourselves. You may want to practice it at home. It's a very catchy tune! And check out our Literacy page for even more new vowel videos! Our Friday Centers this week took on a Halloween theme. Here's what we did: 1. Word Work-we made our own black spiders and wrote a 'ch' word on each of the 8 legs. 2. Work on Writing-we wrote about what we hoped to do at Fall Frolic tonight. 3. Listening to Reading-we listened to a few Halloween books. 4. Art-we created a spider web for our 'ch' spiders. 5. Math-we were each given a number between 2-20 and we had to represent our number three different ways on a piece of paper candy corn. Then, we had to color it to look like candy corn and cut it out. 6. Tech-we played Halloween games on a website called 'primarygames.com' (http://www.primarygames.com/holidays/halloween/games.php) 7. Read to Someone-we read Halloween books to the friends in our group. Another busy day has come and gone. This is only some of what we did... Students totally impressed me with the many different ways they could represent the number 5. I didn't even think of some of them! We learned yet another new math game today called One More. This game practiced our fluency of knowing one more than a number as quickly as we can. The goal of the game was to get 4 in a row. As you can see, many did! Today, during Tech Skills class, I taught the students how to get to our Class Weebly Website. We had some time to explore the various pages on the site and then I taught them how to comment on the blog. They had a blast making comments on the various posts! My email is totally flooded, but I love that they're excited about interacting with our class website and what a great, authentic way to practice our writing skills! Just a little update on some of today's happenings... Our coin jar for the CHAT coin drive is almost full! Let's put a push-on to earn those coins and try to FILL the jar! I wonder how much the jar can hold once it's all full?! Awesome job, Everyone! Today, we were introduced to a brand new Word Work activity called Eat Your Words. We brainstormed a list of 'oo' words, recorded them on our recording sheets and used cheerios to cover all of the o's. Then, guess what we got to do with the cheerios? Eat them! Yum!! Check out our fun below... We also learned a new math game to help us recognize numbers 1-10 in a Snap (quickly). It's called Flash It. Students worked with a partner and flashed dot cards or 10 frame cards in front of each other to see how quickly they could recognize the numbers between 1 and 10. Ask your child how they did today with the game... Bingo!! Awesome game to help us learn and practice many skills including recognizing and naming numbers 1-20, listening carefully, speaking in front of a group and helping our peers when needed. Last, but certainly not least, today was Art Day. We completed an insanely cute art project simply named Black Cat. I am totally impressed with the marvelous effort everyone put into this project! They turned out better than I had hoped! Last week, in conjunction with our It Looked Like Spilt Milk mini-unit, students were given a cloud shape and asked to 'Think Outside the Box' to create it into something else. They came up with some interesting creations! Today, we took a break from our regular math lessons and enjoyed some math centers focusing on number sense. 1. Pumpkin Ten Frames 2. Math All About Me 3. Math Mats 4. Match the number to the Pumpkin Ten Frame |
