This week, we've been writing more List poems. The children did such a fantastic job writing a list poem on a topic of their choice that I just had to share them! Some of them made me laugh out loud and all made me VERY proud :) You can let us know what you think in the comment section below...

Today, we went on our Hospital Field Trip to the DECH and had a fabulous time! Mrs. Vail (a hospital volunteer) met us at the door and showed us to our room where she taught us and showed us an abundance of things like: -what to expect if we needed an x-ray -what to expect if we needed to stay overnight in the hospital for both an emergency and a planned stay -she gave us a finger cast! -she showed us a fantastic video of a little girl preparing for a hospital stay (she was getting her tonsils out) -she took us up the elevator to the 3rd floor on a tour of the Pediatrics wing where we saw a real hospital room AND the children's playroom -she introduced us to Zadie, the doll who opens up so we can learn all about our organs and where they are located in our bodies Check out our pictures below and feel free to leave a comment in the comment box. Don't forget to ask your child to tell you all about our visit. Mrs. Vail also gave us some souvenirs to take home with us to remember our trip by: A mask and a pair of gloves. The children loved dressing up with them! We've been having a lot of fun this week building various numbers to 100 with base ten blocks (units for the ones, rods for the tens and flats for the hundreds). Can you guess what numbers we've built by looking at our pictures? April is Poetry month and we have been hard at work creating different forms of poetry. This week, we created Acrostic Name Poems. This is where our name goes down the side of the paper and then we write a line that tells about us (the topic) and starts with each letter in our names. The children did all did a wonderful job! Thank you to everyone (Parents and Children) for making our Student-Led Conferences such a huge success! Everyone had a fabulous time and I enjoyed watching parents and children interact with the activities that we use each day in Grade One. I hope you were able to get a good idea of what we do throughout the day :)
It seems like it's been a long time since we've had Friday centers, but last week we had the time and the opportunity to. Here's what we did: -Planted some seeds -Read to a classroom stuffed toy -Played Snakes and Ladders -Listened to spring books on the iPad -Wrote about our favorite spring activities -Built words with scrabble tiles and then added up how much they are worth -Sorted counters into groups of 10 to make them easier to count and recorded the number -Read on Raz Kids I know I seem to say this every week, but last week we did the most amazing, beautiful art ever! The children created their own Easter Eggs using tape and pastel. They are amazing! First, they placed masking tape on their egg to create their own design. Next, they colored the different sections with pastels. After that, they carefully peeled the tape off the Easter egg. Voila! A beautiful, vibrant, creative Easter Egg! Coloring the Eggs: Peeling the Tape: The finished products: I love how vibrant they look on the yellow table and how much they pop off the glass wall!
