We made these black cats yesterday for Halloween and I have to say that they may be my favorite art project so far this year! They turned out so great! I just love them! I meant to take pics with the children, but then forgot and hung them up before I remembered again. So, pics on the wall will have to do...Enjoy! This morning we got to go outside and become citizen scientists with Nature NB. They taught us how to make our own track trapper. After spreading mud (we mixed the soil and water together) on a piece of plywood, we spread lard on a stick and then added blackberries, carrots, seeds and apples to the stick. Tomorrow, we will go back out and see if we were able to attract any wildlife to our track trapper. If we see wildlife tracks (footprints), we'll know they were there! Then, we'll try to identify the tracks! So much fun!
We also wrote about our favorite Barbara Reid book in the hopes that she would read them when she walked down the hallway. :) The big day arrived yesterday! She visited our school and we got to meet the Barbara Reid...and even got our picture taken with her! We went to Mactaquac today and had a fabulous time! Being a nature lover at heart, I will take any opportunity to get outside and learn about the great outdoors! Today, we had an opportunity to learn about a lot of different things. First, we learned about how each plant, bug and animal is important and has their own function to make the beaver pond habitat run smoothly. Next, we went on a guided hike around the beaver pond. Justin was our Mactaquac tour guide and he is definitely an expert on beaver pond habitats! Then, we had a quick snack and some fun habitat whole group games. After that, we got to go critter dipping and found all sorts of insects and even a few amphibians! Finally, we got to settle in and eat some lunch and then back to the school we went. A full, but exciting day! Check it out... We had a visit from the Earth Rangers this morning and it was awesome!! They shared lots of different things we can do to help to help the Earth (protect and conserve). And, the had real, live animals!! Check it out! I almost completely forgot about our Applesauce pictures! This was a great day! Almost all of the children LOVED the applesauce...both making it and eating it! :) This week, we completed quite a few Thanksgiving activities, but two of my favorites were our Thanksgiving Number Turkeys and our "I Am Thankful For" writing. The Thanksgiving Number Turkeys were an introduction for our new Representing Numbers to 20 unit in Math. Students had to choose a number between 1 and 20 and represent it 6 different ways. Then, assemble the turkey! Students also had to choose one thing they are Thankful for and write it out so that we could make an "I Am Thankful For" video...Sorry Conor! I had a technology malfunction and your picture was lost :(
