The past two days have been super busy with Halloween activities and I apologize, but I just haven't gotten a chance to get many pictures. It's been go go go! However, I did stop for a few minutes this afternoon to snap some pics of these cuties enjoying these amazing cupcakes made by Olivia's grandmother! They were very yummy!! :) |

Yesterday, I introduced the concept of estimation to the students. We used a fun little activity with ghosts and marshmallows. Students had to first place 1 marshmallow on a ghost and then make an estimate as to how many marshmallows they thought it would take to fill the ghost completely. They proceeded to fill their ghost with marshmallows and then count to check. We're still getting used to understanding that our estimate does not need to be the same number as our count number. It will come with time. After, we got to eat! :) This past week, we've been delving deep into some pretty cute Halloween activities. Starting with these silly painted Halloween pumpkins. They turned out so sweet! We had to do this project in steps: 1. Paint the pumpkin on paper and let it dry. 2. Cut out the pumpkin. 3. Cut out eyes, mouth, teeth and stem and glue onto pumpkin. 4. Glue pumpkin onto black paper. Voila! Cute and Silly! :) We've now begun our second Math Unit-Representing Numbers to 20 and yesterday, we started making Number Booklets for the numbers 0-10. We haven't completely finished them yet, but here are some pics to start...the children had such a fun time with it because they got to use little Halloween stickers to represent each number from zero to ten. :) Last week for Art, the children did some gorgeous Fall Trees with pastels. First, I taught them how to draw a tree trunk using the letter Y. Then, they filled in the tree with pastels and colored the background with pastels, as well. They are simply gorgeous! The pictures don't do them near enough justice, so if you get a chance to check them out, they will be on the wall across from our coat hooks. Let us know what you think in the comments below...
A special visitor arrived in our classroom yesterday afternoon. Ask your child to tell you all about who this is... :)
Today, in recognition of Thanksgiving, we did some very cute artwork we call Thanksgiving Turkeys. Ms. Maloney led us through step by step on how to draw these fabulous turkeys and all of the students did a wonderful job of following her directions. Then, they got to put their own spin on their turkeys with the beautiful, colorful pastels. What do you think? :)
Today, Fire Chief Harry Farrell and another fire fighter from the VONM were in to speak with us about fire safety. We watched a video of the ABC's of Fire Safety, talked about the importance of having a smoke detector in your bedroom and watched as a fire fighter suited up and spoke through his mask (like we would see if we were in an emergency fire situation). We learned lots of important fire safety tips. Be sure to ask your child to tell you some things they learned about fire safety today...
We had an awesome demonstration of Stop, Drop and Roll by a member of our class today. Check it out,,, :)
Yesterday was Heidi's first day with us and she was a hit!! The children all loved her and she loved all the attention she got from them as well. Everyone remembered (and practiced) their pet awareness skills both when they met her and throughout the day (we've been learning and preparing for her arrival). We look forward to many more successful days like this one throughout the next few months :) |
