My new favorite art work...Monet-Inspired Water Lilies! I love taking inspirational art ideas from famous authors so this week we tried our hand at using Claude Monet's Water Lilies for inspiration and they turned out beautifully! Check them out...

On Monday, we went on a fantastic field trip to the Superstore to learn all about healthy eating (nutrition). Our tour guide, Michelle was awesome and she taught us all sorts of things about FRUITS AND VEGETABLES (did you know that green vegetables are good for your bones and red vegetables are good for your heart and brain?), DAIRY (did you know that plain yogurt is healthier than yogurt with fruit?), MEAT (did you know that there is no difference between a brown egg and a white egg except for the color?) and GRAINS (did you know that there is a lot of sugar in fruit loop cereal and is one of the least healthiest cereal you can buy?) When we were finished with the tour, we got to have a snack and got a bag of interesting information to take home with us. Ask your child to tell you all about what they learned at the Superstore (especially the Star System). :) Oh my! How they've improved!! Love those smiles!! :) Today, we celebrated the 100th Day of School with lots of super fun stations: 1. How many can you do in 100 seconds? 2. What structure can you build with 100 cups? 3. Think Outside the Box-using the numbers 1-0-0 4. Make a 100th Day of School necklace 5. Math Game-Race to 100 6. Writing-My Bucket List-Things I would like to do before I am 100 years old Everyone did a fantastic job with these stations...and had so much fun working with the number 100!! It's only the second day we've gone skating and there's already lots of improvement happening! Yesterday was our first day of skating and the children all had a wonderful time! I was very impressed with how well many students did. By the end of our fourth session, everyone's going to be flying around the ice! :) I have a new favorite art project! These snowmen are soooo adorable and they were super fun to do as well! We painted the background and let it dry. Then, we sponge painted the snowmen and while they were drying, we cut out the accessories. Once they were glued on, the snowmen were complete! So CUTE!!! :) For the past three years, we've had a little Elf join us during the month of December to keep our learning on track. His name is Zippy and this year his messages were all about kindness (being kind to others) and the real meaning of Christmas. Check out some of his messages to us below... I simply love these projects! Students take such pride in sharing their family traditions with everyone and always do such a wonderful job! Check them out... I can't believe I almost forgot to post about our Grinchy Adjectives! Last week, we brainstormed a list of words that describe the Grinch both at the beginning of the story and the end of the story and we made a class list. Then, students got to make their own Grinch and add their choice of words that describe the Grinch (adjectives). What fun! :) |
